When he was alone, those around him with the twelve asked him about the parables.
He said to them, “The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those outside, everything is in parables,
so that although they look they may look but not see,
and although they hear they may hear but not understand,
so they may not repent and be forgiven.”
but Israel even though pursuing a law of righteousness did not attain it.
Why not? Because they pursuedit not by faith but (as if it were possible) by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone,
just as it is written,
“Look, I am laying in Zion a stone that will cause people to stumble
and a rock that will make them fall,
yet the one who believes in him will not be put to shame.”
As he approached the road leading down from the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen:
“Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”
But some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.”
He answered, “I tell you, if they keep silent, the very stones will cry out!”
I have called on your name, O Lord,
from the deepest pit.
You heard my plea:
“Do not close your ears to my cry for relief!”
You came near on the day I called to you;
you said, “Do not fear!”
Indeed, the Lord who commands armies has planned a day of judgment,
for all the high and mighty,
for all who are proud – they will be humiliated;
for all the cedars of Lebanon,
that are so high and mighty,
for all the oaks of Bashan;
for all the tall mountains,
for all the high hills,
for every high tower,
for every fortified wall,
for all the large ships,
for all the impressive ships.
Proud men will be humiliated,
arrogant men will be brought low;
the Lord alone will be exalted
in that day.
The Lord answered, “This will happen because my people are foolish. They do not know me. They are like children who have no sense. They have no understanding. They are skilled at doing evil. They do not know how to do good.”
Seek the LORD and His strength;
Seek His face continually.

He did this during a chapel service. It was fascinating – he told the Gospel story – each part of Jesus’ life – and he was drawing the story as he told the story.
For this is what the sovereign Lord says: “Look, I myself will search for my sheep and seek them out.
As a shepherd seeks out his flock when he is among his scattered sheep, so I will seek out my flock. I will rescue them from all the places where they have been scattered on a cloudy, dark day”.
God says,
“I will bring down all the power of the wicked;
the godly will be victorious.”
It seems like it’s a universal belief among guys that somehow God has given us an innate ability to grill meat. Even though we wouldn’t be caught dead in the kitchen opening a cook book, out on the patio we are the BBQ masters!
